Jason Stahl is a senior at the University of Montana. He was born and raised in a Hutterite colony north of Gildford, Montana, 50 miles from the site of the accident. This story was his final project for a special course, "The Worst Day Ever: Writing about Trauma," taught at UM’s School of Journalism by fall 2021 T. Anthony Pollner Distinguished Professor Jan Winburn.
