A Browning man who pleaded guilty to assaulting and kicking a 16-year old victim in the face was sentenced Wednesday to five years prison and two years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Montana.

According to a U.S. Department of Justice press release, Jasper Ryan Rattler, 20, admitted to assault resulting in substantial bodily injury last fall. The prosecution said the assault took place on Feb. 12, 2021, after Rattler had been drinking with the teenage victim during an argument on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, leaving her extremely hurt.

Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case.

The court did not order restitution and declined to comment on the status of the victim.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Myers and Ryan Weldon prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, FBI, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services and Spokane Law Enforcement Services.
