Pompeys Pillar National Monument

Pompeys Pillar is having a free star party on June 18 from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., so that star gazers, history buffs and photographers can witness the Big Sky during the summer.

The National Monument will host Stuart Snyder and Steven Wiles, professors of physics at Montana State University Billings and astrophotographer Phil Hosey. Stars should be visible with the naked eye, but telescopes will be available.

There will be an astrophotography presentation and a bat ranger program.

Those wishing to be a part of the star fun should bring a flashlight (preferably a red one), insect repellent, warm clothes, a folding chair or a blanket (optional).

The National Weather Service in Billings currently forecasts the weather on Friday night to be sunny and clear with a high of 86 and an overnight low of 56.
