Montana Public Service Commission candidate Derek Skees requested a recount in the District 5 GOP primary after earning 11,146 votes to winner Ann Bukacek’s 11,233, according to the Montana Secretary of State’s Office.

“Election administrators in Flathead, Lake, Lewis and Clark and Teton County will conduct the recount as outlined in Title 13, Chapter 16,” said the Secretary of State’s Office in a news release Tuesday.

The Secretary of State’s Office could not be reached for comment Tuesday about the timeline for the recount. Montana code notes a recount should take place “without undue delay but not later than five days after” notice.

Other Republican candidates were Joe Dooling, with 10,442 votes, and Dean Crabb, with 3,143. The winner will face off against Democrat John Repke in the general election.

Skees could not immediately be reached for comment via voicemail.
