The public commenting period for who should fulfill judicial vacancies in Gallatin and Yellowstone counties is now open and will run until Nov. 13 at 5 p.m., the Governor’s Office announced on Thursday.

People can submit letters of support or other comments by email to nomina[email protected], by fax to (406) 444-4151, or by mail to Attn: Hannah Slusser, Governor’s Office, PO Box 200801, Helena, MT 59620.

The Governor’s Office also announced the candidates for the two vacancies.

Thirteenth Judicial District Judgeship (Yellowstone County):

  • Alexander Roth
  • Jeana Lervick
  • Brett Linneweber
  • Charles Brent Brooks

Eighteenth Judicial District Judgeship (Gallatin County):

  • Andrew Breuner
  • Benjamin Refling
  • Audrey Schultz Cromwell
  • Martin Lambert

These judges selected will be the second and third judges to be appointed under the new process that allows the governor to directly fulfill vacancies instead of having to choose from a list of candidates provided by the now-defunct Judicial Nominating Commission. While the governor can choose his appointee directly under the new law, the judge still has to be confirmed by the Senate and run in the next judicial election.
